A vision center is a small, permanent facility set up to provide primary eye care services to semi-rural and rural communities. Vision Technician operates the center and Ophthalmologists offer consultation to the patients through telemedicine technology. The purpose of vision center is to provide comprehensive primary eye care and increase the uptake of eye care services among rural populations. It also plays important role to raise awareness and educate the target community about eye health and establish a referral network with the base hospital for surgery & complicated cases. Deep Eye Care Foundation (DECF) opened its first vision centre at Hatibandha, Lalmonirhat on Thursday, October 14, 2021. The day was the World Sight Day of this year. The main objective of vision centre is to provide primary eye care through tele-consultation to the disadvantaged people living in remote areas. Md. Mashiur Rahman Mamun, Upazila Chairman, Hatibandha was present as the chief guest on the inaugural ceremony. Dr. Md. Abdur Rab, Consultant, DECF, Dr. Sumayea Akhtar Mukta, Senior Medical Officer, DECF, Mahmudul Islam Duke, Program Manager, DECF, AKM Mahbubur Rahman (Prince), Head of HR & Hospitality Services, DECF were also present on this occasion. A free eye camp was also held at the vision centre premises. More than 300 patients were screened at the camp and 48 patients were selected for cataract and pterygium surgery at base hospital, supported by DAK foundation.
