DECF celebrated World Sight Day by unveiling its inaugural Newsletter “KANTI” today.
As part of World Glaucoma Week 2023 (March 12-18), with the theme ‘The World is Bright, Save the Sight,’ the Glaucoma department of DECF celebrated World Glaucoma Day 2023.
On January 15, 2023, a beacon of hope illuminated the landscape as “Deip Anandhara School and College” (DASC) embarked on its journey.
World Sight Day 2021:
DECF observed the World Sight Day on 14 October 2021 in a befitting manner at Rangpur city with the theme ‘Eye care Everywhere’ to raise awareness about preventable and curable blindness. With the collaboration of National Eye Care, Ministry of Health, Civil Surgeon Office, Rangpur & other Local and International NGOs and Support from the Orbis International, DECF arranged a rally and seminar on the occasion. A seminar was also held at the conference room of Sadar Hospital. Civil Surgeon, Rangpur spoke at the event as the chief guest. During this event, a Presentation on Diabetic Retinopathy was presented by Dr. Md. Sajidul Huq, Project Coordinator, Deep Eye Care Foundation. DECF also arranged a free eye camp at Civil Surgeon Office, Rangpur, for screening Cataract and Pterygium patients and delivered free eye health services for the needy apart to mark the day.
ORBIS ARRM 2018:
Orbis International, Bangladesh organized an Annual Review and Reflection Meeting 2018 (ARRM) with its all partner organizations in Hotel Best Western Heritage, Cox’s Bazar from November 6 – 8, 2018. The specific objectives of ARRM 2018 was to review and reflect key project highlights and key organizational achievements of 2018 and drill down creativity and opportunities for greater efficiency. The other objectives of this program were to identify, select new ideas and innovation for concept note development that contributes to achieve universal eye health coverage, to orient partners about Orbis new policies, guidelines and compliances and to build consensus on our ways of work, priorities, 2019 project plan and organizational strategies. Dr. Khairul Islam, Executive Director and A.K.M. Firoz Alam Saifullah, Research Associate & project Coordinator from Deep Eye Care Foundation attended the program.
Scientific Seminar of OSB:
A scientific seminar was held at Parjatan Motel, Rangpur on December 5, 2018 organized by Ophthalmic Society of Bangladesh (OSB), Rangpur Branch. Topic of the seminar was “Optic disc swelling: a case based approach” and “Management of neurological impaired pediatric patients in our daily ophthalmic practice”. Dr. Shayamal Kumar Sarkar, Assistant Professor, National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Dhaka and Dr. Rokhsana Afroje Shoma, Pediatric Consultant, Deep Eye Care Foundation were the Key note speakers of the seminar respectively. Professor Dr. A.K.M. Nurunnobi, Vice-Principal, Rangpur Medical College attended the program as chief guest.
Hospital based training on Pediatric counseling:
DECF and Orbis International Bangladesh organized a week-long Hospital based training on Pediatric Counseling from June 24-27, 2018. Orbis’s Volunteer Faculty Dr. Asim Kumar Sil, Medical director of Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan (VMANNN) provided hands on training to the pediatric counselors of Orbis’s partner hospitals to enhance the knowledge on pediatric counseling to improve patient satisfaction, counseling conversion rate, post-operative follow-up rate for delivering quality pediatric eye care services.
Eyexcel 2018:
This year’s Eyexcel course, “Expanding Global Eye Care Workforce through Excellence in Training,” took place on 16-20 July 2018 at the LAICO facility in Madurai, India. The course focused primarily on allied ophthalmic personnel training needs. Dr. Md. Sajidul Huq Tanjil, Mr. Ahsan Habib, and Mr. Ali Ahmed from Deep Eye Care Foundation attended the course.
Ophthall 2018:
Ophthall 2018 is India’s first Practice Development Conference for Ophthalmologists, Eye Hospital Managers, Optometrists, Technicians, Nurses and anyone working in and for Eye hospitals. The program took place along with India Ophthalmology Expo on 18th & 19th August 2018 at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai. Dr. Khairul Islam, Executive Director and Md. Mahmudul Islam Duke, Program Manager from Deep Eye Care Foundation attended the program.
Inauguration of Dristi Corner:
DECF inaugurated the first Drishti Corner set up at BIAM Laboratory School & College, Rangpur, supported by Orbis International Bangladesh under National Childhood Blindness Project (NCBP) on September 26, 2018. Mr. Enamul Habib, Deputy Commissioner; Roksana Begum, District Education Officer; Abu Rafa Md. Arif, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Md. Solaiman Haque, Principal, BIAM, Dr. Rokhsana Afroz Shoma, DECF and Mahsina Afroz from Orbis International Bangladesh along with students were present during the inaugural ceremony. The program also arranged training for Little Doctors (students) and Teachers on Training on Primary Eye Care.
Scientific Seminar by Vitreo Retina Department:
A scientific seminar on “Management of Rhegmatogenous Retinal detachment” and ”Management of dropped nucleus & IOL” was held at DICO conference room on 26 March, 2018. Dr. Md. Arif Pathan, Consultant, Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka and Dr. Md. Sumsujjaman, Consultant, Deep Eye Care Foundation were the Key Note Speakers of the seminar respectively. Prof. Dr. Sarwar Alam, Director Education department, Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka and Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Senior Consultant and Head of Vitreo Retina department, Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka were attended the seminar as special guests.
