Madaripara is a Char village under Horipur Union of Sundorgonj Upazilla of Gaibandha District. Under the “Char Vision Project” Deep Eye Care Foundation (DECF) has been rendering Eye Care Services to the people residing in the Char areas of Rangpur and Gaibandha districts with the collaboration of ORBIS International. Every month DECF arranges eye camps at different char locations in Rangpur & Gaibanda districts.
On 17.08.2011 DECF organized an eye camp to screen the cataract patients at “Balka kindergarten school” of Sundorgonj Upazila of Gaibandha district.
On the camp day Most. Rajya Begum was diagnosed to have matured cataract in her both eyes and was advised for cataract surgery in her left eye at first. And accordingly she was counseled about cataract surgery. ‘Surgery requires lot of money’ Most. Rajya Begum was upset and said “I am not able to spend money for surgery, so I am to remain blind and this is my fate”. She lived with her daughter. She told her daughter about surgery but her daughter incapable to pay money for her surgery. Counselor informed about the opportunity of free of cost cataract operation under “Char Vision Project”. Most. Rajya Begum became stunned listening to counselor and agreed to go for operation with the medical team.
The surgery was performed on 8th August 2011. Next day her visual acuity was 6/9. After getting good vision she was too much glad and said, “For last 3/4 years I was not able to perform daily works. As I was not able to contribute anything for my family they started to ignore me in all aspects. After getting good vision she was too much glad and said “Now I am not a burden to my family, I have started contributing for my family again which has increased my dignity”.
On 3rd September 2011 she comes to Gaibandha vision center for her follow up. She willingly came to DECF for cataract operation in her 2nd eye on 3rd September 2011. The 1st POD vision in right eye was 6/12 without correction. She prepares herself to go her own home. Now she is doing her daily activates.
