Salapack is a Char village under Gajoghanta Union of Gongachara Upazilla of Rangpur District. People of that village uses van/riksha or by cycle to come to district town or upazilla town.
Under the “Char Vision Project” Deep Eye Care Foundation (DECF) has been rendering Eye Care Services to the people residing in the Char areas of Rangpur and Gaibandha districts with the collaboration of ORBIS International. Every month DECF arranges eye camps at different char locations in Rangpur & Gaibanda districts.

On 30.10.2010 DECF organized an eye camp to screen the cataract patients at “Salapack primary school” of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur district. On the camp day Mst Hamizon Nessa was diagnosed to have matured cataract in his both eyes and was advised for cataract surgery in her left eye at first. And accordingly she was counseled about cataract surgery. ‘Surgery requires lot of money’ Hamizon Nessa was upset and said “I am not able to spend money for surgery, so I am to remain blind and this is my fate”. She lived with her son. She had told her son about surgery but her son did not agree to pay money for her surgery. Counselor informed about the opportunity of free of cost cataract operation under “Char Vision Project”. Hamizon Nessa became surprised listening to counselor and agreed to go for operation with the medical team.

The surgery was performed on 1st November 2010. Next day her visual acuity was 6/9. After getting good vision she was too much glad and said, “For last 4/5 years I was not able to perform daily works and I couldn’t see anything. As I was not able to contribute anything for my family they started to ignore me in all aspects. I thought me to be burden for rest of my life to my family members”. On 12/12/2010 she came for 3rd follow up and on that day her left eyes V/A was 6/9. Getting good vision she was too much glad and said “Now I am not a burden to my family, I have started contributing for my family again which has increased my dignity”.
